Surah At-Talaq : Ayat 2 & 3 (Ayat Seribu Dinar)

The Amazing Pipeline Story

The Amazing Pipeline Story :
A story of "Pablo The Pipeline Man" and "Bruno The Bucket Man"

Summing-up the story

It's a story of two cousins (Pablo and Bruno) sharing the same goal of reaching the dream of abundant life. Both of them do have the same burning passion and determination in reaching their dreams. But yet they differ in their perspective on reaching their dreams. Bruno the macho one thought that by continuously working hard and somehow adding the load of bucket from time to time will eventually lead him to his dream. While Pablo the wise one thought differently, he eagerly believe that if he continuously carries the heavy bucket this will eventually stressed him down and so he come up with the idea of creating the pipeline from river down to the village.

Pablo knew that creating the pipeline will take him long timeline to accomplish but he also knew that Bruno will take a lifetime of doing the bucket carrying over and over again. So Pablo out of determination he took the risk of creating the pipeline alone while Bruno continue his bucket carrying of way living and even carries a bigger buckets to earn more money.

Pablo kept his work of carrying buckets of water during weekdays and during his spare time he work on his digging of soil for his pipeline. People in the village together with Bruno were already laughing at him and even giving him name of "the pipeline man". While Pablo was busy working on his pipeline Bruno's income went double and enjoying his hard work wages from the bucket carrying.

After years pass, Pablo finally finished his pipeline and started to generate income without the need of him to carry buckets of water.  The income generated in his pipelne was far more greater than Bruno's income. Pablo then stop to work while his  income flowed as the water flowed to his pipeline.

Moral the story
We Live In A Bucket-Carrying World

Who are you? A bucket-carrier or a pipeline builder? Do you get paid only when you show up for work like Bruno the Bucket Carrier? Or do you do the work once and get paid over and over again like Pablo the Pipeline Builder?

If you're like most people, you're working the bucket-carrying plan. It's the time-for-money-trap. The problem with bucket carrying is that the money stops when the bucket-carrying stops. Which means the concept of a "secure job" or "dream job" is an illusion. The inherent danger of carrying buckets is that the income is temporary instead of ongoing.

If Bruno woke up one morning with a stiff back and couldn't get out of bed, how much money would he earn that day? ZERO! No Work-No Money! The same goes for any bucket-carrying job. Once bucket-carriers stop carry buckets for any reason, they won't continue to get a paycheck.

WHY?

Because bucket-carrying is the model that our parents followed and the one that they taught us to follow. The bucket-carrying model tells you here's what you do to get ahead:
  1. Go to school and learn how to carry buckets.
  2. Work really hard.
  3. Earn the right to carry bigger buckets. (get promoted)
  4. Resign from "Bucket Company A" to work for "Bucket Company B" which lets you carry even bigger buckets.
  5. Work longer hours so you can carry more buckets.
  6. Put the kids through bucket-carrying college.
  7. Try to get promoted from carrying metal buckets... to carrying plastic buckets... to carrying digital buckets.
  8. Dream of the day you can retire from bucket carrying after 30-40 years. Until then, keep carrying those buckets... or, the bucket-carriers dream comes true.
  9. You hit the big lottery! (the odds are 1 in about 14-15 million against them, but hey most all bucket carriers think it could happen to them, so... until then, keep carrying those buckets)
Several Important Points In The Story

Working smart, as you read/heard the story you can clearly see how Pablo work smart while working hard and you can also see the how Bruno was working hard.  Working hard is one important characteristic that you don't want to neglect but yet working smart is even more far important than working, what more if two characteristics will be combined.  Now if reflecting it to yourself, you might be asking how to work smart or am I working smart? You will know the answers if you have the answers to the following questions yourself.
  1. Am I spending more time to work than my family?
  2. Do I have specific small goals that can contribute to my major goal? Or are these goals in-lined to my major goal?
  3. Am I listening to the right people?
  4. Am I in physically fit?
  5. Is there a better way of reaching my goal instead of doing the same thing over and over again?
Think win win, according to Stephen Corvey's 7 habits of highly effective win-win people sees life as a cooperative arena not a competitive one. A frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions.  In  a nutshell it's a means of agreements or solutions that are mutual beneficial and satisfying.  In the story before Pablo started to work on his pipeline, he shared his idea to Bruno but Bruno denied his idea and Pablo moves on. Imagine if the situation that Pablo will not share his idea to Bruno, Bruno will might probably go mad to Pablo for keeping the idea alone. Now imagine a different situation when Bruno accepts Pablo's idea and started to work together on the pipeline, the pipeline will  be probably be finished within a year or less. You can clearly see the benefit of think win win.

Small actions equals big results, Pablo took several years to finish his pipeline and each of his spare time he hammers, dig inch by inch, inches turned into foot then feet then 20 until such time he finally a working pipeline was made. This alone proves the qoute "Short-term equals long-term gain".  Never understimate the small action that you can make.

Undying determination, the most influential factor to person's achievement is the people around you but yet Pablo was unstunned to the village people as they laugh and even named him pipeline man. Most of the time you will encounter this kind of people and even I personally experienced it however it's the will of determination that counts. Just think of it if Pablo listens to the village people and decided to stop the pipeline.

A short reflection to ponder, which person are you in the story?

  1. Are you Pablo?
  2. Or are you Bruno?
  3. Or are you one of the people in the village?
